LIVES / WORKS IN NEW YORK
Ian Mack was born in England and spent his early years painting in London.
After studying in London he lived in Mexico where he discoveredthe vibrancy and emotional power of color. His early work was figurative representational realism, with anemphasis on the flattening of space and the removal of traditional perspective.
Since the 1980s his work has been driven by color. Now purelyabstract they reference very small details of his surroundings that become large and small scale paintings.
He moved permanently to the United States in 1981.
He spent twelve years in Colorado before moving to the east coast. He has lived and worked in New York since 1994.
